School Subject Tutoring

Our academic tutoring philosophy is that it’s our responsibility, not your child’s, to make difficult subject material more accessible. At school, students feel like it is their job to “get it,” but at the Brooklyn Learning Center, it is our job to explain it. Through our process-oriented academic tutoring method, our tutors help students find themes that connect all of their academic work. When students begin to understand their own process they are able to effectively apply these strategies.

Who is it for?

Almost any student can benefit from academic tutoring. Whether the goal is subject-specific academic help, general damage control or purely summer advancement, we tailor the program to each student. Our expertly trained tutors are agile in their response and can handle any request thrown their way, which means if a student is signed up for 8th grade math help, our tutors will be more than happy to help him with his big science project due next week. We also design semester-long classes for home-schooled students.

When and how much?

We offer one-on-one tutoring sessions in all academic subjects for elementary through high school students. Typically, parents call to give us information about the problem at hand. During this conversation we gather background information such as current grades, academic history and teacher-written school reports, all of which we consider when selecting a suitable tutor. We don’t use standardized assessments to get started; we meet students for initial sessions and start assessing what will help right away. Through this academic tutoring method, students feel like each session is genuinely helpful, which makes them want to come back.

We have sessions available during the school day (for students within walking distance), after school until 7:30, and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 5:00. Fees vary with the service. Please call for more details at 718-935-0400 or email us here.
