College Entrance Tests: SAT/ACT Preparation

It’s a fact: SAT/ACT preparation improves scores. And since getting into college has become more and more competitive, ‘test prep’ has become even more commonplace. Our one-on-one tutoring method raises students’ scores by teaching them how to tackle each part of the test. We raise their math scores by analyzing what types of problems they miss most frequently and then teach the material with our own Math SAT Curriculum, which we have developed over the past 25 years. We do the same for writing mechanics, essay writing and critical reading. We send our students to the test with a customized game plan, instilling them with the confidence they need to tackle any and all questions.

Who is it for?

Similar to our academic tutoring, our SAT/ACT method is based on each student’s learning style and not on strategies for the masses. We help assess which test is right for your student. If a student is planning on taking the SAT/ACT and doesn’t know how to even begin preparing, our tutors will help him get a foot in the door. We help students who tend to get nervous during tests learn how to stay calm and focused. We help students who are already scoring 700 but want to score even higher reach their goals. This kind of personalized attention results in significant score gains and, just as important, new test-taking skills students can apply throughout their academic careers.

When and how much?

We recommend a minimum of 10 SAT/ACT sessions immediately preceding the test date, although many students elect to come once a week for a full school year. In general, we believe that ‘slow and steady wins the SAT/ACT race.’ However, some students learn best when they focus on one thing at a time and benefit from a concentrated course in a summer program, with targeted booster sessions right before the test date.

We also offer proctored practice tests of the SAT/ACT almost every Saturday of the school year. We provide special accommodations like extra time and computers for essays, if that is how students will take the SAT/ACT.

We have sessions available during the school day (for students within walking distance), after school until 7:30, and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 5:00. Fees vary with the service. Please call for more details at 718-935-0400 or email us here.
